Initial Meetings

When creating this website during my internship at IdeaBase, I had an initial meeting in person to get to know the client better, narrow down what we were looking for in a website, and logo possibilities. Throughout my next meeting and messages over Basecamp, I found a criteria that the two of us would like to reach to meet her desired website design and structure. Listed below are the few large points that were touched on throughout these meetings.

  • Create an archive page so the client can create posts to help users navigate through coaching videos
  • Both a single and twelve-week session pages for users to enroll in the program
  • Create a booking page so users can make appointments or free assessment sessions
  • Create a practice materials library where the client can share videos (must sign up before you can view practice materials)
  • Keeping the site simple for easy navigation for new users (ex: small navigation bar, easy access to buttons to get to booking quicker, summarized information to help users get through certain content faster)

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

In my design / development process, I created a set of low-fi wireframes to get a basic layout of how the client and I would like the website to look like. There were many good ideas we got off of these initial sketches, helping me change specific areas based off of client feedback and my thoughts. Listed below are some good statements for changes.

  • Stack the FAQ list and put an image on the left side to make it more visually pleasing
  • Create a smaller navigation bar and have the coaching sessions as a submenu to the services tab
  • Make the contact page a mail-contact form for the user to better interact with the accent coach
  • Keep video content on the footer and a separate page for the videos

Takeaways and Next Steps

With making revisions on the site and meeting all the client needs, I would like to see how the user flow and analytics are with engagement and viewing time. In addition to that, I would want to make any development changes necessary to meet other client needs. This was a client-based project through my internship at Kent State University, so I did have a time constraint, making my goal of this website to meet my clients needs and desires in the simplest, most effective way.

This was a great experience for me to understand how WordPress can be used with a good amount of plug-ins, along with testing my skills as I designed the whole website myself. I really look forward to seeing how my client develops the site in the future, as well as seeing traction move through the site.
